Male infertility is not only common but extremely complex. And to treat sperm-related ailments, Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is used which is an advanced form of IVF procedure. While in IVF you need large amount of sperm. But in ICSI treatment procedure, a single sperm is injected into an egg for fertilization. Procedure of ICSI
- Stimulation of eggs
During medication, the ovaries are stimulated which promotes the growth of the follicles. After 8-12 days, an injection (trigger) is prescribed for the final maturation of the egg. - Egg Collection
After 34-36 hours, eggs are collected from the ovaries. This procedure is undertaken under the guidance of ultrasound along with mild sedation. - Sperm Selection
Once the egg collection is undertaken, then the sperm sample is also collected. Once done, the sperm is then analyzed by an embryologist in the lab. Furthermore, the most motile and healthy sperm is then selected for insemination. - Fertilization
Every mature egg is given a single sperm. With the help of a tiny needle, the sperm is then injected into the mature egg. Once done, the egg is cultivated in an incubator wherein a constant check is undertaken for fertilization. It is kept in the embryological laboratory for 3-5 days. - Embryo Transfer
Evaluation of embryos is very critically undertaken in the laboratory. The best of embryos are then transferred on the fertile dates. - Post Transfer Care and Process
After the transferring of the embryo, the female patient is prescribed medicines for a successful embryo implant. After a gap of 14 days, a pregnancy test is conducted to determine the success rate of the embryo transfer.
