Intrauterine Insemination, or IUI, is one of the most common forms of IVF therapy in which sperm is specifically inserted into the woman’s uterus. This fertility therapy is regarded as one of the most effective ways of increasing the chances of reproduction. Test Tube Baby Center in Pune
IUI is a form of artificial insemination in which a doctor uses a catheter to insert sperm directly into a woman’s uterus. The purpose of IUI is to facilitate pregnancy by allowing sperm to enter and fertilize a mature egg in a woman’s fallopian tubes, which open to the uterus. As compared to sexual intercourse and previous types of artificial insemination in which sperm was inserted in a woman’s vagina, IUI almost doubles a woman’s odds of being pregnant. This is because the IUI treatment is performed when a woman is ovulating and sperm are placed in the fallopian tubes where fertilization occurs.
Who should consider Intrauterine Insemination?
Individuals suffering from unexplained infertility – Unexplained infertility occurs when a person or pair has difficulty being pregnant and a doctor is unable to pinpoint the precise trigger. Individuals with this condition will also benefit from assisted fertility therapies, such as IUI, to help them get pregnant. Best IVF specialist in Pune
LGBTQ people and single mothers –
Women who do not have a partner, as well as gay couples, will want to consider IUI to get pregnant. Sperm for the treatment may be obtained from an unknown donor from a sperm bank or a recognized donor, such as a family member or friend.
Couples suffering from male-factor infertility –
When a couple’s infertility is caused by the quality of the male partner’s sperm, IUI can help the couple become pregnant. IUI is particularly useful when the man’s sperm cannot travel to the egg for fertilization. Sperm shape and the amount of sperm in a man’s sperm will also affect sperm production. In extreme cases of male-factor infertility, couples may need to use IVF with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) of the sperm into the egg or, if sperm is missing and cannot be retrieved, donor sperm with IUI to become pregnant.
Women suffering from cervical infertility –
Women with excessive cervical mucus can have trouble conceiving. This may be because sperm cannot pass through the mucus to reach the uterus and fallopian tubes. IUI helps sperm to bypass the cervix, increasing the chances of fertilization and conception. This is an uncommon source of infertility. Gynecologist in Wakad
Endometriosis sufferers –
Endometriosis is a disease that causes inflammation and swelling near the fallopian tubes and other reproductive organs, resulting in infertility. IUI may be recommended for women with moderate endometriosis, especially if they do not have any other infertility issues.
Women that are allergic to sperm –
In rare circumstances, a woman can develop an allergic reaction to sperm and produce anti-sperm antibodies. This allergy is frequently caused by proteins in sperm rather than sperm itself. Since the sperm sample is washed before the treatment, all potential allergens are removed, an IUI may allow women with this allergy to become pregnant.
Individuals suffering from sexual dysfunction –
If a pair or person suffers from sexual dysfunction, such as erectile dysfunction, which has stopped them from being pregnant, IUI may be an appropriate recovery choice.
Process of IUI
Women who are considering IUI will usually seek fertility testing first, particularly if they have previously struggled to conceive. If they have a male mate, he will be screened for infertility problems that could impair the production of his sperm.
If a woman wants to use a sperm donor to conceive, she will usually choose a sperm donor after consulting a commercial database that lists the donor’s characteristics. These may include facial characteristics as well as family medical records.
Women with a confirmed infertility disorder or unexplained infertility may use ovulation induction medications such as Clomid or Femara 10 to 12 days before IUI. These drugs activate the ovaries’ follicles, where eggs grow, and either enhance ovulation performance or increase the number of mature eggs available for fertilization.
Best IVF Docter in pune. Doctors will monitor egg development in the ovaries and ensure that IUI is done while an individual is ovulating. In certain cases, a doctor will use transvaginal ultrasound to control egg development. Women may also use at-home ovulation kits, which measure their urine to determine when they begin ovulating. A doctor can also give a woman an hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) injection, which triggers ovulation, to regulate the timing of ovulation. IUI is usually performed 36 hours after a trigger shot or 24 hours after a positive urinary ovulation test kit.
The donor or male partner’s sperm sample is cleaned before the IUI operation. This procedure eliminates potentially dangerous toxins while increasing the abundance of healthy sperm. Using this concentrated sample increases the chances of conception after the IUI.
A specialist would place a speculum through the woman’s vagina and then move a catheter across the cervix and through the uterus during the operation. The doctor will insert the washed sperm sample and withdraw the catheter and speculum. Many women compare the feeling of doing an IUI to receiving a Pap smear. Most women lay down for 15 to 30 minutes after the surgery and then continue normal activity.
Success Rate
IUI cycles have live birth rates per cycle ranging from 5 to 15% for all patient groups. However, recorded success rates differ greatly from research to study. Some trials indicate only an 8% success rate (using fertility medications and IUI), while others show success rates of over 20%. Success is determined by a variety of factors, including whether or not fertility drugs were used, which ones were used, and the age of the patient.
